The fundamental concern in the epistemological framework of Ayatollah Jawadi Amoli is the clarification of the relationship between the human being, knowledge, and divine unity (tawḥīd). Drawing upon Transcendent Philosophy (al-ḥikmah al-mutaʿāliyah) and a Qurʾanic ontology of existence, he conceives the human being as a living theomorphic being (al-insān al-ḥayy al-mutaʾallih), whose existential reality unfolds as a manifestation of the Divine Names and Attributes. Accordingly, knowledge is not merely an instrumental or methodological construct but a mode of being and an instance of ontological disclosure. Within this framework, religious science is understood as the interpretation of divine action and the unveiling of truth in the order of creation, since the world is God’s act and the human being is the mirror of divine knowledge; hence, the notion of non-religious science appears inherently incoherent.
This study aims to provide a systematic philosophical analysis of the relationship between theomorphic anthropology and the epistemology of religious science in the thought of Ayatollah Jawadi Amoli. The research adopts a philosophical–exegetical and conceptual-analytic methodology, drawing primarily on his major works. The findings demonstrate that reason and revelation function as two vertically ordered sources of knowledge, and that religious science is intelligible at three interconnected levels: content, foundation, and teleology. The reconstruction of Islamic human sciences, therefore, requires a philosophical rearticulation of the human being, since the theomorphic human constitutes both the subject and the criterion of knowledge. Within this framework, sacred reason, divine nature (fiṭrah), and mystical intuition converge in a unified monotheistic horizon. The study concludes that a transition from instrumental rationality to divine reason is a necessary condition for the realization of Islamic human sciences.
