Abstract

The realization of a modern Islamic civilization is fundamentally impossible without a specific framework for problem solving. This article aims to explain the “problem solving pattern” in the intellectual system of Professor Martyr Morteza Motahari, and systematically analyzes his approach to contemporary social and civilizational “problems.” The main research problem is to discover a systematic framework for the professor’s method of analyzing and solving problems that, based on Islamic principles and paying attention to objective and historical realities, presents a rational and coherent confrontation with emerging questions. The inferred pattern is explained in five main steps: discovering the problem in relation to the macro-problem, theoretical and historical formulation of the problem, basic confrontation with the theology of the problem, decomposition of the problem into subject systems, and theoretical-objective combination to present the final solution. The findings show that Shahid Motahari, by utilizing the jurisprudential-Quranic rationality, the tradition of Shiite ijtihad, and the understanding of the modern world, presents a coherent model for solving the social and intellectual problems of contemporary Muslims. The main innovation of this research is the extraction of an applied model from the master's method of problem solving, which can be the basis for the reconstruction of Islamic humanities. The present research is a basic research type and was conducted with a descriptive-analytical method, and the data were collected in a library manner and processed by analyzing the content of Master Motahari's works.
