About the Journal

As is well known, one of the core objectives of the Islamic Revolution is to move toward the formation of a New Islamic Civilization. The study of civilizations has a longstanding tradition in global academic disciplines, and in recent decades has emerged as a distinct field of inquiry—often referred to as civilizational studies or philosophy of civilization—which has attracted prominent scholars worldwide. Even in the Arab world, where civilizational movements have been limited, this field has drawn the attention of many intellectuals.

Despite the clear emphasis of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran on civilizational development as the strategic direction of the Islamic system, there has not yet been an academic journal in Iran specifically dedicated to civilization and its related issues. Major questions such as theories of the rise and fall of civilizations, divine traditions in history, the nature and epistemology of civilizational approaches, lessons from past civilizations for the Islamic Revolution, and the role of Mahdist thought in shaping the future of global civilization are all crucial to any revolutionary movement aspiring toward civilizational construction. Unfortunately, such issues have remained largely absent from peer-reviewed scholarly publications in the country.

This journal seeks to address one of the most essential and foundational themes of the Islamic Revolution in the coming decades:
"What is the civilizational theory of the Islamic Revolution, and what plan, vision, and foundations guide its path toward this new civilization?"
This is among the core questions we aim to explore in this journal.

Although there are several academic journals across the Islamic world with broad titles such as “Civilizational Studies,” they tend to focus on general and diverse civilizational topics. This generalist approach is understandable given the wide scope of the field. However, following consultations with academic experts, the thematic scope of this journal has been deliberately narrowed to focus on issues pertaining to the Islamic Revolution and its role in building Islamic civilization. Hence, the title of the journal—Interdisciplinary Civilizational Studies of the Islamic Revolution—reflects this specific focus.
