Abstract

Modern political science is formed in the light of the humanistic approach of the European Renaissance, with the idea of "independence of politics from ethics" by Machiavelli, and then based on the secular and mechanistic approach of Hobbes, and is consolidated by political thinkers of the Enlightenment era. By departing from teleology and virtue-centeredness in the political science of practical wisdom, this science changes its subject from "government focused on justice and virtue" to "power" and, by explaining and analyzing power mechanistically, deals with the laws governing how power is produced, distributed, exercised, and controlled. In view of this approach, modern political science is not compatible with the epistemological, cultural, and civilizational backgrounds of Iran-Islam and cannot play an effective and useful role in solving society's problems and moving forward in the civilizational perspective of Iran. The effectiveness of this science in the civilizational horizon requires its paradigmatic transformation towards governance focused on supervising the social system. This fundamental transformation has changed the priority of political science from the issue of power to policy-making and supervision of the social system based on the capacities of the Iranian-Islamic tradition, and provides the basis for its effectiveness in line with the civilizational vision.
